Intro
I've had a site now for a few years and really just want somewhere to put my ramblings and to demonstrate that I really do know a bit about (x)html, CSS and doing graphics with Adobe Photoshop.
A lot of the effort that went into the site is now not even really visible to visitors, since the last incarnation I've completely re-worked the content management system to reflect changing goals. This is the main reason for the site's absence for over a year, I didn't want to put it up with a half-baked version of the CMS as I knew I wouldn't get around to fixing it properly if it 'worked'. It also ended up taking considerably more time than expected because I didn't have the kind of time to devote to it that it needed whilst I'm at uni, subsequently most of the work was done in vacations... and as they're 8 weeks apart it took a long time. There's a lot more about the CMS, called xix, in the xix section

Compatibility
Previous versions of the site had multiple templates for different browser capabilities. I'm afraid I'm getting a little more stubborn in my old(er) age, and there's currently only one. That's because this is a W3C standards compliant design. Older browsers and text based browsers will have a much less pretty site, but hopefully it is at least readable. Internet Explorer is one of the browsers that doesn't quite believe in standards (although version six is much better), and some of my pages won't render as nicely in Internet Explorer as they will do in 'better' browsers. For viewing the site I recommend using Opera, Mozilla Firefox or a Konqueror based browser (such as Apple's Safari). These should now all support the required CSS2 and xhtml 1.1 to a sufficent standard.

Names
Recently I decided to partially move away from the ajrn.co.uk domain name, this is because although remembering acronyms comes naturally to me as a computer scientist - especially when they're my initials - it doesn't seem to to others. So to try and provide a more memorable name I purchased the informationstorm.co.uk domain, which just sounded cool at the time.
